Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation Review
A couple of weeks ago I posted a first impressions video to my YouTube channel trying out the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer and Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation by Rihanna. Although my first impression of the foundation was awesome, I wanted to wear it for a couple of weeks to see what I really thought. So here goes...
The shade range is amazing, there are 40 shades to choose from and cover all categories from the very lightest skin tone to the darkest. I love that Fenty Beauty offer both warm, cool and neutral for those skin tones that fall in between.
The foundation has a great coverage. It is medium to full but is buildable. The product applies as a liquid but dries quite matte so it doesn’t leave a tacky residue.
Note: The foundation oxidises alot! Make sure you test the colour on your forearm and allow to settle for a couple of minutes before deciding on a shade.
The foundation is lightweight to apply but dries very quickly so you need to work quickly, I do find that if I use a moisturiser, serum or suncream beneath the primer it gives more blending time. I have found fingers are actually better to apply this foundation with because the warmth from your hands allows you to move the product around a bit more and really allows it to sink into the skin rather than sitting on the surface.
What Didn’t Work...
Although the foundation is a lightweight formula, I find I can feel it on the skin quite a lot (especially as it is summer here in Australia). I have found though by using a very thin layer to even out the skin tone, and then building up on areas that need a little more evening out I can create a really flawless base that feels much more breathable.
If the foundation is applied too thickly, it tends to fade off in patches. However if a thin layer is applied and built up in areas that need more coverage, it is a pretty long wearing foundation!
The product takes quite a bit of cleansing to remove.
Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation works really well with the Pro Filter Instant Retouch Primer. Usually I feel like you can get away with mix and match, but make sure the formula base is the same - I.e you are using water based with water based or oil based with oil based products otherwise you will find that separation occurs on the skin... i.e the foundation will slide off.
The primer is a cream formula, but with a slight gel texture. I really like the primer, it feels lightweight, hydrating but not greasy. It has a light pinky colour to it when it comes of the bottle, but beomes clear once massaged into the skin.
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and the Pro Filter Instant Retouch Primer are available at Sephora.
